The Steel Yard is dedicated to supporting individual artists in their pursuit of knowledge and financial independence. For many students our open enrollment courses can be just that; a chance to learn an art form or a trade in a setting that encourages experimentation and personal growth.

Fire Camp is this Weekend!

|If you are between the ages of 14 and 18, let Camp Copperhead introduce to you the work of designing and making your own jewelry. Students in this one-week intensive will acquire a solid set of technical skills, and will also exercise their creative design skills. The non-technical side of the class focuses on idea development and the critical-thinking skills needed to realize a vision. This course will review sawing, filing, soldering, scoring/bending, texturing, forming, linkages, wire construction and more. This is a great opportunity to explore jewelry making for the first time - No previous metalsmithing experience necessary. All materials, safety equipment, and tools will be provided. Please B.Y.O.Bagged lunch - the Steel Yard will supply healthy snacks and treats.|

Heather Guidero is a 2002 RISD graduate with a BFA in jewelry and metalsmithing. After 3 years of goldsmithing in New York City, she moved back to Providence to focus on her own work and teach others about making jewelry and metal objects.
