In this course, students will learn the basics of forging in semi precious metals to create their own hammered bracelets. Non-ferrous metals that are properly annealed with heat can be forged at room temperature which results in much safer and more controllable smithing. Students will be introduced to jewelry scale blacksmithing techniques using various hammers and anvils. Cold connections will be taught, and jewelry will be finished with patina. By the end of class each student will have a much deeper understanding of forging metal by creating hammered cuff and bangle bracelets in heavy gauge copper with sterling silver rivets. No prior metal-smithing skills are necessary. Metal will be provided for practice and exercises, but students must pay for additional metals needed for their independent work.
