Many of the techniques involved in the knifemaking process will be familiar to metalsmiths, with attention towards the use of different materials. Design considerations will be addressed in relation to form and function, as well as the aesthetics of the finished piece. No prior knifemaking skills are necessary, but a prior knowledge of basic metalworking skills will be helpful. All materials, safety equipment and tools will be provided, including tool steel for the blade and micarta for the handles, for each student to complete one 3” fixed blade knife.
