In Serving Tray in a Day, students will have access to our ceramics studio and a knowledgeable instructor who will lead demonstrations using a slab roller guiding students along a creative journey to create an array of serving trays, dishes, and platters. This class is appropriate for students new to the field as well as the seasoned ceramicist looking to learn a new technique. Beginners will learn the basics techniques such as using the slab roller, roller printing, joining slabs, and glazing that will yield unique ceramic flat ware of all shapes and sizes. Students will also have the opportunity to explore surface decorations and glazing techniques. No previous ceramics experience necessary—this class is open to all levels. Materials and tools will be provided. Enrollment in this course includes additional access one monitored Open Studio session per week; either on Thursday afternoons from 3:00pm – 6:00pm, Friday evenings from 5:00pm - 8:00pm, or Sunday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Unfinished student work should be picked up within two weeks of last class.

Patti Barnatt believes that making things is essential to one’s life and that sharing one’s expertise with others is fun. She has 40 plus years of teaching experience, currently teaching sewing at her place of business, West Side Sewing Studio as well as Ceramics classes in handbuilding at The Steel Yard. Patti has been a resident of the Steel Yard Ceramics Cooperative 2008-2015.
