Youth Enrichment Partnerships
Through partnerships with local high schools and youth and arts organizations, the Steel Yard offers classes in blacksmithing, bronze casting, welding, ceramics, and other industrial arts to local students aged 13-18. Based in the Steel Yard's industrial shop and taught by working artists, these free classes enable students to gain hands-on instruction in art forms unavailable through public school curricula. Students graduate from YEP classes with a piece of work that they have made with their own hands, and command of new skills that have both fine arts and vocational applications. Whether a student wants to learn a new craft, gain access to otherwise unavailable instruction in the fine arts, or jumpstart a career in the industrial arts, YEP classes broaden their horizons. Current YEP partners include AS220's Broad Street Studio, the Met School, and New Urban Arts. The program is funded by grants from the Rhode Island Foundation, David Rockefeller Fund, and Providence Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism.

All students work on projects in real-world settings related to their interests and develop strong relationships with teachers and project mentors. The Met enrolls families, not just students. We have a very diverse student body, and every Met graduate has been accepted to college.
