Offerings
The Steel Yard is an industrial arts center dedicated to providing artists, tradespeople, and members of the surrounding community with a point of exchange, education, and access to fine and vocational arts resources. Along with creative expression and arts education, the Steel Yard promotes the incubation of new work, products and ideas.
  • Community Courses:

  • Our courses, taught by working artists and tradespeople, enable students to develop technical and vocational skills while working creatively. Students may choose to take our coures to build their resumes, aquire pre-certification training, explore a new art form, or learn skills that have practical applications on the home or garage.

  • Studio Access Programs:

  • Open Studios-- Starting April 1st The Steel Yard will be running Open Studios. If you are a current student or if you have experience in metal working or ceramics then Open Studios are a great opportunity to get into our studio and do some work. Participants have access to our course tools and equipment and experienced monitors are available for questions and assistance.

    Ceramics Locker-in-Residence Program-- Artists, tradespeople, and Community Course graduates with a working knowledge of ceramics can rent a locker in the Steel Yard's industrial arts shop for a low monthly fee. This gives them access to our specialized tools and equipment, and time to develop their skills and create new work.

  • Events and Lectures:

  • The Steel Yard hosts and coordinates presentations that connect its educational, industrial, arts, and cultural programming with local and community audiences. Monthly newsletters keep community members informed of recent happenings and upcoming events at the Steel Yard.

  • Youth Enrichment Partnerships:

  • The Steel Yard works with local high schools and youth organizations to provide tuition-free fine arts and technical training in areas ranging from blacksmithing to blueprint reading.

  • Steel Yard Products:

  • The Steel Yard produces a limited line of products made on site by local community members. Our products are made from all recycled material, and bare the unique stamp of an individual's touch.
